Name Dropping¹
by Larry Turner
Bill Marr
John Wills²
Charlene Baumbich³
I have only three names to drop.
If you do not catch them,
then let them lie.
¹The November issue of Poetry Magazine has art works the poet David Shapiro has made by pasting stickers on postcards. His descriptions are filled with name-dropping. I'm thinking of trying the process myself, but I don't have his connections, so I wrote the following poem.
² John is a former Chicago police officer and retired FBI agent. He writes both non-fiction and fiction in the form of novels, short stories, articles and poetry.
³Charlene is a Chicago writer, speaker and humorist.

Four poems appear in Eastlit
http://www.eastlit.com/eastlit-december-2014/eastlit-december-2014-content/time-difference-poems/

AT THE MOUNTAINSIDE
AT THE MOUNTAINSIDE
I met a little boy at
a mountainside
who was quick to
laugh and cry
tears had hardly
rolled down his cheeks
when a sweet smile
bloomed at his mouth
there was nothing
purer than his sparkling tears
nothing more
beautiful than his angelic face
I understood the
intention of the Creator
and was moved by the
child’s innocence
I stared at him with a
deep feeling
warmth flooded my
heart
tears of gratitude
welled in my eyes
when I looked again he was
gone

Two Suns Or More
YELLOW RIVER
Two Suns Or More
Finally came the news
the flesh and blood scattered
during the Big Bang
may have settled
another solar system
44 light-years away
The possibility of
having relatives
as cultured and
peaceful as the human race
aroused intense
excitement throughout the world
Now just let us pray
they and we worship
the same God
YELLOW RIVER
If you trace up the
turbid current, you will find
as any geography book
can tell you
the Kunlun Mountains
in Qinghai
Yet according to
history’s bloody accounts
this river
which turns clear at
most
once in a thousand
years
has its origin in millions
of eye sockets
of suffering human
beings

HARBOR
1
the harbor was asleep
when the fog moved in
the strange beast in her nightmare
licked her with its wet tongue
she woke to find the world
weeping
2
watching helplessly the departure
of a roaming son
she wonders why
she has to be a southern port
that never freezes

CHICAGO SERENADE
Evening
a desolate street
A car with its windows tightly rolled up
stops for the red lights
Suddenly
in the rear-view mirror
a dark figure looming
Sir, buy ...
The ashen driver
steps in fright on the pedal
and rushes through the red lights
like a rabbit running for its life
... buy some flowers
